Buy Very Affordable Goods and More at the 7 Best Markets in Rotorua
We all want to save as much money as we can when buying something, which is why local markets are typically a better choice than big-name supermarkets. Not only are they more affordable, you can also see that the goods are truly fresh.
With a desire to look for inexpensive yet quality food and products (who doesn’t?), I diligently searched for the local markets in Rotorua that offer them. Luckily, I found seven (with the bonus of some entertainment).

Rotorua Night Market is a street market that is full of life, with food trucks and stalls selling various cuisines, produce, and handmade products. This is the type of market where you can bring your family or friends and spend the rest of the night having fun.
My family and I love the wide range of Asian food you can eat here. I highly recommend eating at Siu Mei, a stall serving Cantonese-style roasted meats.
Their beef or lamb dishes are amazing, especially their sizzling beef. It has slightly caramelised beef that tastes so good.
The other thing we love about this market is its vibrant atmosphere. The live performances of talented musicians help give the place a lively vibe.
Pro Tip:
If you don’t want to walk long while going to the market, arrive before 5:00 PM so you can park on the nearby streets.
Note that the Rotorua Night Market operates depending on the weather, which means they don’t operate if there’s bad weather. Visit their official Facebook page to see if they will open before visiting!

Kuirau Park Saturday Market is an open-air fundraising market in one of Rotorua’s parks that has been operating for over three decades. It has a friendly atmosphere, perfect for a Saturday morning away from work.
My husband loves the fresh produce we buy here, such as fruits. This is where he prefers to buy his favourite apples and mangoes.
If my husband loves the fruits, what I love here is the decorative things I can get every time we visit. Most of the plants in front of our home came from here. I also buy mugs with elegant designs for display in our home.
Pro Tip:
Make the most of your visit by soaking your feet in the free geothermal foot pools. You may also visit the lake and mud pools in the park, which are also free.
Most importantly, don’t forget to try one of the coffees at the coffee van!
3. FreshChoice Te Ngae

FreshChoice Te Ngae is the ideal store for a quick stop. You can grab a few things at this convenient minimarket before heading out somewhere.
Since I discovered it, this market has become my go-to store when I forgot to buy some things on my grocery list. Although it’s not as affordable as some markets on this list, it still sells at less expensive prices than most supermarkets.
FreshChoice Te Ngae is more convenient than most markets on this top list because it operates every day. That’s why this is my husband’s favourite market to stop by to get some snacks when heading to work.
Pro Tip:
If you can’t visit personally, just call their contact number, and you will get your orders the same day you ordered them.

Vetro Mediterranean Foods is the market to visit if you want some deli-style and European food. They sell local and imported products from different parts of the globe, such as Italy, Spain, and France.
My husband and I love the wide variety of affordable wine we always find here. We both love wine, so we always visit this store before special occasions at home, like birthday parties. Some of the wines you can buy here are from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and other wine regions in France.
Aside from the great selection of wines, Vetro Mediterranean Foods has some awesome NZ-made rose harissa paste from Alexandra’s. It’s a must-try product if you’re into spicy food.
Pro Tip:
To have a preview of their available products, visit their website and go to the “Foodies heaven” section under the Rotorua branch tab.
Note that they sell salad dressing recipes during the summer months.

Super Save Rotorua is a market where you can buy almost every product in bulk at a reasonable price. This is the market to visit for your produce needs, such as fruits and vegetables, as it is recognised as a produce market.
Apart from produce, I noticed that this market sells a lot of Asian products, mostly Indian. We ended up trying some of the Indian seasonings they sell because they have too many of them to ignore.
Pro Tip:
Always check the expiry date of the products you plan to buy, as some of them may have expired.
6. Reduced to Clear – Rotorua

Reduced to Clear is a well-known grocery clearance store that sells products close to their expiry dates at discounted prices. Don’t worry, they never sell expired products.
I’m always thrilled when going here because I never know what I will get at this ever-changing store. It’s ever-changing in the sense that its stocks change daily. That’s why I always try to buy the products I like in bulk if my budget allows me to.
Pro Tip:
Be prepared for the market’s first-come, first-served approach, as the stock is limited and changes each day. Consider visiting on Thursday or Friday if you want to have chilled and dairy products.
Always check their official Facebook page to get updates about their new products and deals.
7. Agrodome Farmers Market

Website: https://www.agrodome.co.nz/things-to-do/farmers-market/
Address: 141 Western Road, Ngongotaha
Contact Details: +64 7 357 1050
Operating Hours: Sunday – 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Pricing: $
Agrodome Farmers Market is a once-every-month market in a farm theme park. The stallholders here sell fresh produce, dairy products, and handmade crafts, all for a reasonable price. I consider this market a rare find on my list.
I’m always looking forward to this market because I love the dairy products I can get here. What other ideal place is there to get dairy products aside from a farm, right?
Aside from the affordable goods, my family and I enjoy great entertainment, especially my child. My kid met Shaun the Sheep here and watched working dog trial events for free. There’s also a playground where we played until we decided to go home.
Another thing worth mentioning is the cafe near the market, Farmyard Cafe. We haven’t tried it yet, but we will once we return to the farm when the market operates again (we’re patiently waiting for it).
Pro Tip:
Agrodome Farmers Market is an on-and-off market, meaning there are months when they are operating, and months when they don’t.
To know if they will operate in a certain month, visit the Agrodome website or the Mai Rotorua website.
